First time buyers Aaron Montgomerie and Emma Richardson celebrate combining Help to Buy schemes to get more for their money with Hodson Developments. A young soldier has finally been able to set up home with his sweetheart thanks to combining two Government schemes to help people get on the property ladder. Aaron Montgomerie, 31, who is in the Royal Engineers, was living on an army base in Wiltshire, while his partner Emma Richardson struggled to save a deposit while renting a home in Windsor. By successfully combining Forces Help to Buy with the regular Help to Buy scheme, the couple are now settling in to a new home at The Fitzroy Collection by Hodson Developments in Bracknell.
“Without combining Help to Buy and Forces Help to Buy we wouldn’t have been able to afford to move at all,” says Emma, a 36-year-old HR business partner for a building company. “We have been trying to save for a few years, but we were going to struggle to ever get a full deposit together. Using the two schemes gave us the 5% deposit that we needed to buy; it just wouldn’t have been an option otherwise.”
“We love our spacious new home, and it was the perfect place for us to move as we have lots of friendly neighbours who welcomed us from day one,” says Emma. “We also have some friends that we already knew just up the road and we’re both close to work which makes life much easier. We now feel like we’re part of a real community.”
Christie Alaimo, Sales Director for Hodson Developments, says: “We are delighted to be able to offer the Forces Help to Buy scheme at the Fitzroy Collection. It’s particularly helpful that the scheme can also be combined with Help to Buy, and we can guide buyers through every step of the process.”
Hodson Developments’ experience of the two schemes was certainly a great help to Aaron and Emma. “The whole process of moving was made much easier thanks to the guidance we received, which made everything incredibly straightforward,” says Emma. “And best of all, our mortgage repayments are now less than it was costing us to rent, and we now have a property of our own. We got much more for our money buying this way.”

Buying a new home just prior to having a baby could potentially be one of life’s most stressful experiences. However, for one young couple, Ryan Bartholomew and Jen Mather, (aged 28 and 27) who purchased a brand-new home in just four weeks just before the arrival of their son Josh, the process could not have been easier.
As featured in The Metro newspaper – 13th February 2018
The new parents bought a stylish two-bedroom apartment in Bracknell at Hodson Developments’ Fitzroy Collection and, thanks to Help to Buy, they now even pay less in their monthly mortgage than they were previously paying in rent.
Now baby Josh is five months old, the family are very settled in their new ground-floor garden apartment at the Fitzroy Collection in Bracknell, and say that life couldn’t be better.
Project Manager Ryan said: “We had been looking to buy when Jen was pregnant, and we nearly bought elsewhere, but then some friends told us about the Fitzroy Collection. We quickly organised a visit and as soon as we saw it we knew that it was everything that we were looking for. Thanks to Help to Buy we were able to make the figures work, and have ended up buying a far superior home than we otherwise would have been able to without it. The whole process couldn’t have been simpler and we were even moved into our home within just four weeks, which was perfect timing with Josh’s pending arrival.”
Purchasing with Help to Buy, the couple only needed a 5% deposit to purchase their brand-new home at the Fitzroy Collection. The popular Equity Loan scheme meant that the upfront cost of purchasing was much less than it might otherwise have been with only a 5% deposit required. Additionally, their monthly repayments are comparatively lower because the 20% Equity Loan available with Help to Buy means that purchasers can access interest rates more typically available with a 75% Loan to Value mortgage.
Ryan adds: “Help to Buy was a bit like a dream come true for us, and has meant that we have been able to start life as a new family in a home of our own. I know that we have the loan to repay, but for now we can enjoy a bit of a breather and benefit from paying our mortgage rather than wasting endless amounts in rent. Next year we hope to start putting some money aside again to repay the loan, and hopefully we will end up owning the property in full. It’s great to feel like we are finally making an investment into the future for our own family.”
The Fitzroy Collection is a stylish collection of new apartments by award-winning developers, Hodson Developments, which is now 60% sold. Situated close to thriving Bracknell town centre which is currently undergoing a £250 million regeneration, the town has recently seen the arrival of the multi-million shopping centre, The Lexicon.
Less than a five-minute walk to the train station, the couple (who both work in London) will benefit from an easy commute, with services running into Waterloo in under an hour. New to Bracknell, the family are also enjoying discovering the town’s plentiful amenities right on their doorstep.
Jen says: “Bracknell was a new area for us, but we have some friends who live here and love it – and we have not been disappointed! We are discovering new great places to eat, shop and take Josh to, and have been really enjoying everything the town has to offer. It’s a very family friendly location too, and so there is always something to do – we couldn’t be happier with our move.”
Christie Alaimo, Sales Director for Hodson Developments said: “As this young family has found, purchasing a new home can really make the whole process of buying a much smoother experience. Furthermore, thanks to Help to Buy, much of the financial pressure of moving up the property ladder can also be removed, and means that purchasing one of our exceptional apartments at the Fitzroy Collection with a lower deposit amount is a real possibility.”
A limited number of one, two and three-bedroom garden apartments, apartments and superb penthouses are currently available at the Fitzroy Collection where prices currently start from £264,950. With Help to Buy, this means that a deposit of just £13,250 is required to purchase one of the stylish apartments.

Help to Buy Success With Hodson Developments
One factor that has caused this figure to soar has been the popularity of the highly successful Government-backed Help to Buy equity loan initiative. Under the scheme, homebuyers only need to save a 5% deposit in order to secure their property. They can then borrow 20% of the value of the property in the form of an equity loan which remains interest-free for 5 years. Help to Buy has made it possible for over 440,000 families get onto the property ladder since 2013, proving both its popularity and success.
Proving especially popular with Help to Buy is Hodson Developments’ Fitzroy Collection in the booming town of Bracknell. 60% of the properties have now sold at this exclusive Berkshire development and many of these have been able to make the most of Help to Buy. Allowing homebuyers to purchase a stylish new apartment in this popular town-centre destination with only a 5 % deposit, it is no wonder this exceptional new development is selling fast.
Christie Alaimo, Sales Director for Hodson Developments says: “Help to Buy is an excellent initiative allowing real people to purchase the home they both want and need. It’s success here at the Fitzroy Collection has been phenomenal and we have been working hard to make sure that as many buyers as possible can benefit from this superb deposit saving scheme. The fact that homebuyers can purchase one of these stunning apartments with only a 5 % deposit is truly amazing.”
Available with Help to Buy, the Fitzroy Collection is a private gated development offering one, two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses. Each property includes secure underground parking and cycle store, as well as large private balconies and patios.
Prices start from just £259,950, and with Help to Buy this requires a deposit of just under £13,000. What’s more, many properties are now also exempt from stamp duty, helping buyers to make further savings when purchasing their home. The development is excellently served by transport links, with Bracknell train station a few minutes’ walk away, and key motorways such as the M25, M4 and M3 close by.

Landmark Housing Development Given Green Light To Proceed
The Council’s Planning Committee has approved Hodson Developments’ detailed plans for the start of Phase 1 of the development, which includes 346 new homes, subject to minor amendments to the drawings.
Chilmington Green is a new, mixed use community by Hodson Developments comprising 5,750 quality new homes which will be built out over the next 20 years, providing much needed homes for Ashford’s growing population. As well as new homes, Chilmington Green will also boast its own high street, a secondary school, four primary schools, a park and extensive areas of green space. It will also provide up to 1,000 new jobs for the local area.
Ashford is very well served by public transport with trains every half hour between Ashford International and London St. Pancras taking only 38 minutes via the High Speed 1 rail link. There are also approximately 37 Eurostar departures a week from Ashford International with direct trains to Paris, Brussels, Lille and other European locations.
Initial infrastructure work started on the site in April 2017, including the construction of a new roundabout on the A28 as the main access to the development, work on other access points, new internal roads and land drainage.
Alan Hodson, Managing Director, said: “It has taken many years of planning to get to this stage, and we are delighted to soon be in a position to start building houses. It will be great to get on site and start transforming all the plans into reality and we aim to have the first residents moving into the development in Winter 2018. The new homes will be available for off plan sales during Summer 2018.
“Chilmington Green is going to be a high quality, major new community for Kent. It has its own design code to ensure the quality of the scheme, which will reflect many of the design principles of the successful garden cities, such as tree-lined streets, a spacious layout with high quality public spaces. We are determined that it will be a development that we as developers will be very proud to put our name to.”
With Bracknell now hailed as one of the most successful Boom Towns in the South East, there’s never been a better time to move to Bracknell and buy at the Fitzroy Collection.
With the stunning new £240 million Lexicon shopping and leisure district now open, Bracknell is forming the heart of one of the largest urban regeneration projects in the UK.
Overall, the £768 million regeneration of the Bracknell Forest area will see new schools, improvements to transport and expanded healthcare facilities, making Bracknell one of the most vibrant places to live and work in the home counties. The Fitzroy Collection by Hodson Developments is making for an ideal opportunity to invest in the thriving Berkshire ‘Boom Town’
Although Bracknell has a mainline station that can take you to London Waterloo in just an hour, the incredible regeneration of the area means there is little reason to go further afield for shopping and leisure opportunities – everything is right there on the doorstep. The centrepiece of the new Bracknell town centre is The Lexicon, a one million square foot shopping and leisure complex with 70 shops and restaurants, funded by The Bracknell Regeneration Partnership in conjunction with Bracknell Forest Council.
The Lexicon, one of the biggest town centre regenerations in the UK, has every type of shop you could wish for – a premium Fenwick department store, M&S, Boots, Next, H&M, Footlocker, Cath Kidston and much more. You can take a break at a variety of cafes, including Patisserie Valerie or Costa, and when you’re too weighed down with shopping bags to move much further there’s also a Waitrose and a Sainsbury’s. The Lexicon is also great for an evening out, with a selection of restaurants to choose from serving everything from gourmet to relaxed family dining.
Cineworld at Bracknell keeps the centre buzzing all evening, with 12 screens to choose from and access to the latest 4DX technology – a revolutionary cinematic experience that stimulates all five senses with the help of high-tech motion seats and special effects including wind, fog, lightning, bubbles, water, rain and scents, all synchronised with the action on screen.
With so much to offer, it’s not surprising that companies are investing heavily in the Bracknell area. The Bracknell Regeneration Partnership is a joint venture between Legal & General Capital and Schroder UK Real Estate Fund, while other major companies are involved in the £112 million being spent on new schools, £250 million on healthcare and £108 million on new homes. Luxury housing developments such as Hodson Developments’ Fitzroy Collection not only provide a superb environment in which to live, but also offer fantastic opportunities for buy-to-let investors to stake a claim in newly transformed area.
Christie Alaimo, Sales Director for Hodson Developments, says: “Inspired urban regeneration is transforming Bracknell into a vibrant place to live and work, with great possibilities for investment. The 72 luxury apartments at the Fitzroy Collection are within walking distance of the mainline railway station and all the shopping and leisure options at The Lexicon, but in a peaceful area with uninterrupted views of the rolling countryside from the balconies. Whether you’re looking for a first home, aided with Help to Buy, or an investment property for the future, booming Bracknell and the Fitzroy Collection should be the first place to look.”

If you’re looking for a new home that will make you feel on top of the world every single morning, the four luxury new penthouses just coming onto the market at the Fitzroy Collection in Bracknell could be perfect for you.
Spacious layouts, designer bathrooms and well-appointed kitchens in all the stunning homes at The Fitzroy Collection mean that every apartment has a luxurious feeling; but the newly released three-bedroom penthouses are the pinnacle of the development in more ways than one.
The four penthouses, which take up the entire 5th floor of Dorchester Mansions, also boast the luxury of a giant wrap-around glass chrome balcony and terrace, giving plenty of outdoor living space from which to enjoy the uninterrupted views over the Bracknell countryside and the beautifully planted and maintained grounds around the Fitzroy Collection. And of course, there’s no need to worry about climbing the stairs – both buildings have lifts to just outside your front door.
The lateral penthouses are a very generous 108 sq m (1163 sq ft) in size internally, with a further 61 sq m (656 sq ft) of terrace space that wraps around the lounge and dining area and the three spacious bedrooms. To put it into perspective, according to the Horticultural Trades Association, the average British garden size is now just 14 sq m, or less than a quarter of the space of one of the penthouse terraces.
The fully lit terraces have ample space for a dining set, making them ideal for summer breakfasts, soaking up the sun in a deckchair or indulging in a nice glass of wine and watching the beautiful views as the sun goes down. Despite being conveniently close to the town and all its amenities, including the new Lexicon shopping and leisure centre, the Fitzroy Collection is in a quiet situation in Old Bracknell Lane. There’s an added bonus in that the secure private parking, with two spaces earmarked for each penthouse, is tucked away under the apartments, so there is little noise to disturb the enjoyment of rooftop living.
There is generous internal areas of open-plan living, dining and kitchen space to enjoy. Meanwhile, three good-sized bedrooms, one of them with an en-suite bathroom, give plenty of scope for overnight guests or family life. The vast expanse of glass used in the penthouses means that all the main rooms enjoy plenty of mood-improving natural daylight as well as the relaxing views.
Despite all the space and luxurious touches, the Government’s Help to Buy equity loan scheme means that all the apartments at The Fitzroy Collection, including the penthouses, remain affordable. The scheme offers all purchasers, including first time buyers, the chance to borrow from the Government 20% of the price of a brand new home, meaning that purchasers won’t have to spend as long saving up for a deposit or pay increased interest rates for a high loan-to-value mortgage.
Help to Buy is available on new homes costing up to the value of £600,000 – so all of the new properties at our Fitzroy Collection qualify for the Help to Buy equity loan which is interest-free for five years, and effectively allows purchasers to get the keys to their new home with just a five per cent deposit. So with the penthouses starting from £475,000, buyers would only need to save £23,750 as a deposit to start living the high life on top of the world in Berkshire.

A loan from the government’s Help to Buy scheme has allowed a Berkshire-based general manager to upgrade from a starter flat in Kent to a luxury penthouse in Hodson Developments’ Fitzroy Collection in Bracknell
Alex Bloor, 35, used Help to Buy to secure a loan of 20 per cent of the property price with no interest for five years. Two months ago, he moved into the three bedroom top floor penthouse which comes complete with a spacious living and dining area, an en-suite bathroom and two terraces, ideal for enjoying the views across the rolling Berkshire countryside.
Alex is already enjoying life in his new penthouse. He said: “Because it is on the top floor, you get a huge amount of light. I moved from a ground floor flat which although it wasn’t really dark, it was down a hill and it was nothing compared to what I have now. I can see the horizon in all directions and I have photographed a lot of sunsets.”
A property owner for ten years, Alex sold his home in the village of Westerham, Kent to move to Bracknell where he works in order to vastly cut down the amount of time he spends commuting.
He had assumed that he wouldn’t qualify for Help to Buy being a property owner already but the ‘friendly and positive’ team at Hodson Developments explained that homeowners looking for their next move can still use the popular equity loan scheme on any new home up to the value of £600,000.
Featuring spacious one, two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses, the Fitzroy Collection is a private, exclusive development set over two luxurious buildings. It offers individually designed apartments with superior specification as standard and is set in beautiful landscaped grounds.
Christie Alaimo, Sales and Marketing Director at Hodson Developments, said: “It’s a common misconception that Help to Buy is only for first time buyers. As Alex’s case shows however, it’s easy to use the scheme if you already own a property and are looking to upgrade to a brand new home. With spectacular views and a host of added features, Alex has really been able to boost his quality of life and it’s great to see him settle in so well in his new home.”
Alex was previously spending over two hours a day in his car driving the 50 miles there and back between his office in Bracknell and where he lived in Kent. After five years of daily long journeys, he was prompted to make the move when the penthouse became available.
He said: “I wasn’t really considering moving at all until I saw the penthouse. I didn’t even look at any other properties in this area, I just really wanted this one. I liked where I was living but seeing The Fitzroy Collection convinced me the time was right to move. I had a look around when it was still a building site and decided very quickly to pay the deposit.”
Alex’s mega commute has been slashed to just 15 minutes walking and he says that it has had a significant impact on his quality of life.
The general manager at an internet service provider continued: “For one thing I have got a lot more free time now. I would never be able to do much in the evening as I wouldn’t get in until nearly 7pm whereas now I have already been home for an hour and a half by that time. It does make a big difference.”
The Fitzroy Collection by Hodson Developments is close to Bracknell town centre which is currently undergoing a £250million regeneration. A vast selection of High Street shops, well-known restaurants and entertainment are all within easy reach.
Knowing the town already has helped Alex to settle in quickly to his new life in Bracknell. He is just a few minutes’ walk from Bracknell mainline train station for easy access into London and also back to Kent when he wants to visit old friends.
Christie Alaimo concluded: “Bracknell is being transformed by one of the country’s largest regeneration programmes into a vibrant destination with scores of new shops and restaurants. This all adds to the excitement that is building up around the town and explains why we have seen such interest in the Fitzroy Collection. What’s more, the development is situated in one of the best parts of town to live with everything Bracknell has to offer on the doorstep.”
A limited number of 1, 2 & 3-bedroom garden apartments, apartments & penthouses are currently available at the Fitzroy Collection starting from £264,950. For more information see the Fitzroy’s availability or call 01344 481 893.
The well-being of home-buyers is a top priority at the Fitzroy Collection, the newest all-private development from Hodson Developments.
The quality developer has created a unique green setting for buyers at its stylish apartments with large communal gardens, beautiful lawns as well as benches and decorative statues for residents to enjoy.
While internally the elegant new apartments in Bracknell feature all the latest appliances and technology, they are surrounded by carefully cultivated gardens that have been sympathetically planted to seem as if they have been tended for decades.
Too often developers take short cuts on landscaping. Hodson Developments, on the other hand, wanted to make sure that the environment around the Fitzroy Collection was as beautiful as the homes themselves, providing a tranquil breathing space for residents and a welcoming home for wildlife.
Every apartment has its own private outdoor space from which to enjoy the views over the Berkshire countryside. The penthouses have spacious, wrap-around terraces; the ground floor apartments have large private patios with feature landscaping; and the homes on floors one to four have generously sized private balconies.
It’s not just the private spaces that make the Fitzroy Collection special, it’s the care that has been taken in landscaping the communal areas, giving the look and feel of being surrounded by a spacious, established garden without having to waste every weekend mowing and digging. According to recent research, access to a garden is seen as one of the top priorities when choosing a new home.
The combination of a low-maintenance private outdoor space and beautifully landscaped communal areas provides owners at the Fitzroy Collection with the perfect solution.
Hodson’s gardeners have certainly been busy digging and planting around The Fitzroy Collection. They have put in 188 Western Red Cedars (Thuja Plicata Martin), 540 laurels and 140 box trees; plants that were carefully chosen to appeal to the senses and provide wildlife habitats.
The red cedars are part of the Cypress family, with lush, evergreen foliage that is mid-green in the summer, becoming tinged with bronze in the winter to provide an attractive seasonal variation. Unlike its much-maligned relative the Lleylandii, the Martin red cedar has slower growth, taking 20 years to reach just six metres, and staying green and healthy on the inside, unlike faster-growing varieties.
Evergreen Laurel is also a feast for the senses, with big, glossy leaves that turn from deep red to vivid green. In the summer it has exotically fragrant creamy flowers, followed by a mass of black berries in autumn.
Not only do buyers at the Fitzroy Collection have the best of both worlds when it comes to outdoor space, the location of the development offers the same mixture of benefits. While the extensive gardens create a sense of tranquillity, the apartments are just a few minutes’ walk from Bracknell mainline train station and the new £250m regenerated town centre with its high-end shopping district The Lexicon, featuring 70 new shops and restaurants including Fenwick, Waitrose and Carluccios, plus a 12-screen Cineworld.

Hodson’s newest all private development—The Fitzroy Collection—has already proven incredibly popular with both first-time buyers and existing homeowners since its release, with residents praising its high-end specification and spacious layout.
However, what’s really driving the popularity of The Fitzroy Collection is its sublime location, situated in the heart of one of the UK’s largest regeneration programmes. Bracknell is an area on the rise, benefitting from a town centre and transportation regeneration, which is why the area has become the go-to destination for homebuyers keen to live in a thriving modern town.
Bracknell, an up-and-coming town in the trendy county of Berkshire, is a jewel in the crown of England’s South-East region. Currently undergoing a huge regeneration programme in excess of £250m, this substantial investment will see Bracknell enjoy a brand-new town centre, as well as a bespoke highway infrastructure by the end of 2017.
At the heart of this regeneration scheme is The Lexicon, a fashionable new high-end shopping district with around 70 new shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. As well as a new three-level Fenwick department store, high-street retail giants like Topshop and H&M rubs shoulders with major established names like Marks and Spencer and Waitrose to offer a superior shopping experience to suit all tastes and budgets. In addition, a number of stylish restaurants like Carluccios and Wagamama and a Cineworld 12-screen cinema cements The Lexicon as the ultimate leisure destination. Such is the popularity of The Lexicon development, Bracknell is already being touted as a “next generation” town centre, the go-to destination to shop, work and relax. To find out more about the development, please visit www.thelexiconbracknell.com.
The Lexicon is just one in a myriad of changes taking place in and around Bracknell. The area’s multi-million-pound regeneration is one of the most ambitious redevelopment schemes in the country, and is set to provide its occupants with exceptional new facilities as well as additional business opportunities across the area. The town already benefits from an unrivalled location—just a short distance from excellent road network hubs including the M25, M4, M3, M40 and A30, as well as being just 18 miles from Heathrow Airport and 49 miles from Gatwick.
However, Bracknell is expected to get a huge boost from a huge investment into local infrastructure and road networks, which will provide the town’s 118,900+ population with greater ease of access into the town centre and neighbouring towns and cities. Residents of Bracknell can already traverse quickly and easily to neighbouring towns like Ascot (3.7 miles), Windsor (10 miles), Reading (12 miles), Guildford (16 miles), and Central London (30 miles) by car, and within 60 mins by train.
The Fitzroy Collection, with its 72 high-end one, two and three-bedroom apartments and penthouses, fits in perfectly with this chic location. Situated in the prime RG12 postal zone—heralded as one of the best places to live in Bracknell—The Fitzroy Collection is located on the enviable Old Bracknell Lane, just a few minutes’ walk from the mainline train station and the town centre.
Furthermore, if you like to escape the hustle and bustle of a busy town every now and then, residents can take their pick of nearby county parks to soak up culture and beauty, like Windsor Great Park and Virginia Water, both idyllic backdrops for a leisurely walk or a weekend of activity.

VIRIDIUM, an exclusive collection of apartments located on Frimley Road in Camberley has scooped the top prize at the recent First Time Buyer Readers’ Awards. The national awards, held at the Landmark Hotel in London, hailed Hodson Developments as the winner for the category of Best Medium Development for its ‘exceptional’ work at Viridium.
The judges, as well as panel of readers from First Time Buyer Magazine, praised the developer for the appealing design, superb quality and desirability of the stylish new apartments.
Alan Hodson, Managing Director of Hodson Developments says: “It was our aim to bring a unique development of very attractive apartments to the Camberley market that would appeal to a wide range of homebuyers, including first time buyers. We are delighted with the result and we are very proud that Viridium has been awarded this fantastic accolade.”
The apartments at Viridium blend modern sophistication with time honoured construction methods and each home has been individually designed to create a variety of layouts with outstanding build standards and finishes. Allowing residents to enjoy outdoor space, every apartment has either a large private patio, balcony or terrace. Internally the homes are equipped with the most up-to-date high standard specification which combines the efficiency of a 21st century lifestyle within a luxury setting.
Lynda Clark, editor of First Time Buyer Magazine comments: “Our panel of judges were particularly impressed with the very high quality of finish available with every apartment at Viridium. It was clear to see that no corners have been cut and that every homebuyer would receive the same level of exceptional care from Hodson Developments. As well as the thoughtful design of these attractive properties, the apartments at Viridium are available with Help to Buy. Although not an exclusive scheme for first time buyers, the scheme helps anyone buying a brand new home under the value of £600,000 do so with just a 5% deposit. The homebuyer receives a 20% interest-free equity loan from the government which, combined with the 5% deposit, allows them to gain access to more affordable interest rates available with a 75% mortgage.
Alan Hodson adds: “Our apartments combine quality homes, award-winning design and excellent customer care. The fact that buyers can purchase a home here with a 5% deposit and Help to Buy is an added bonus. We would invite anyone who is looking to buy a home in the local area to visit us to find out more.”
First time buyers Sofia and Tom Brzostowski were delighted to discover that Help to Buy could help them get more for their money with Hodson Developments.
Help to Buy is the government-backed homebuying scheme that allows anyone buying a new home to do so with just a 5 % deposit. Homebuyers receive a 20% interest free equity loan which together with the deposit, allows them to gain access to much more affordable 75% mortgage interest rates. The scheme which is available on all new homes under the value of £600,000 has been very popular since its launch two years ago, helping thousands of buyers get on or move up the property ladder.
Sofia says: “We couldn’t quite believe it at first to be honest; Help to Buy looked too good to be true. Before we came across the scheme we didn’t think that we were even going to be able to stretch to a half decent one bedroom property in Surrey – everywhere just seems so expensive. However, we went to visit the Viridium development in Camberley and were shown how Help to Buy worked and were thrilled when we realised what we could get for our money. We fell in love with a beautiful two bedroom apartment on the top floor of the development and thanks to the 5% deposit requirement, we have been able to buy a much bigger home than we previously would have been able to.”
The recently married couple had been renting a compact one bedroom flat in Guildford where they were spending £850 a month in rent. Now, with Help to Buy Sofia and Tom are about to move into a spacious two bedroom apartment at Viridium where they expect to pay a monthly mortgage of just £820, offering them a small monthly saving.
Tom says: “The fact that we will now be paying less for our mortgage than we were previously paying in rent is madness. Not only is our new apartment bigger than the one we were renting but it is money that we are investing in our future and not throwing away. This way we can repay the loan with the money we would have saved towards a deposit – or just pay it back when we sell the property. We can’t believe how lucky we have been!”
Buying a top floor two bedroom apartment at the exclusive Viridium development right at the heart of Camberley, the couple are delighted with their new property. Offering superb views across Camberley and Surrey countryside, Sofia and Thomas hope that this will now be home for at least the next five years.
Sofia adds: “It’s so exciting – we just love our new apartment and can’t wait to move in. It has such a great layout with ensuite bathroom to the main bedroom and a lovely balcony to enjoy the far-reaching views.”
Located on Frimley Road, Viridium is an exclusive gated development by award-winning housebuilder, Hodson Developments. Set over three buildings with both countryside and town views Viridium comprises an outstanding collection of one, two and tree bedroom apartments, garden apartments and penthouses within private landscaped gardens. The development also provides private off-road over and underground parking for its residents.
Christie Alaimo, Sales Director for Hodson Developments comments: “Due to its lower deposit requirement and access to more affordable mortgage rates, Help to Buy doesn’t just help first time buyers like Sofia and Thomas, it helps anyone looking to buy a home for less upfront cost. The scheme has been a very popular way to buy a home at our Viridium development in Camberley, allowing homebuyers to buy a bigger property in this sought-after Surrey location.”
Ideally situated for Sofia to travel to work by train in both Guildford and London from nearby Camberley stations, Thomas will travel to Woking by car. Camberley is also well located for access to London, the M3 and the road network beyond with Heathrow just 16 miles away.
Proving to be a very popular choice with a range of homebuyers, Viridium is attracting many buy-to-let investors. One local family have purchased their fourth buy to let property at Viridium…
Dean Meredith and his wife Carol have bought their fourth investment property; a stylish two-bedroom apartment at Viridium by Hodson Developments in Camberley. Since purchasing their first property nearly ten years ago, the couple still believe that investing in property is the best way to plan for their children’s future and are even considering their next buy to let.
Watching their properties increase in value over the years and receiving a decent monthly income from rent, Dean and Carol were confident that the way to secure a comfortable retirement and ensure a good start for their children was to again invest in bricks and mortar. They are currently generating a rental yield of over 5% at Viridium and would consider buying a second property there.
Dean comments: “Investing in property was a way for us to help give our children the best start to their adult life. We made our first investment at the height of the property market back in 2006 as we feared that they would never be able to afford to buy their own home. We quickly realised that property was a good way to invest, generating a great return and we now own four investment properties in total. The latest one, our apartment at Viridium has been the easiest purchase, buying a brand new apartment which has required no work and we even had tenants move in within a week.”
Proving to be an appealing choice for investors and potential tenants, the town centre apartments at Viridium are finished to a very high standard. The development is already attracting investors like Dean and Carol looking for a hassle-free investment with a good rental yield.
Dean continues: “We knew as soon as we saw Viridium that it was going to be a good investment. From our point of view as the property has been finished to a very high standard and is brand new, no maintenance needs to be done, meaning less upfront cost for us and tenants could move in straight away. We are looking at a rental yield of around 5% which we are more than happy with.”
Christie Alaimo, Sales Director at Hodson Developments says: “Given its high quality specification and popular town centre location, Viridium is proving to be attractive option with investors. For prospective tenants, the appeal is they get to live in a brand new apartment in a convenient location with secure gated parking and also being newly built, utility bills will be much lower too.”

One downsizing couple have found their perfect new home in one of the stylish penthouses at Viridium in Camberley
Derek and Diana Lindon (80,77) were keen to downsize from their five-bedroom family home in Sandhurst. Having lived in the large property for over 21 years and fed up of getting backache from gardening, they set their hearts on buying a brand new apartment. Their search to find the perfect property took three years but finally came to an end the moment they visited the stylish penthouse at Viridium in Camberley.
Retired British Aerospace engineer, Derek says: “We knew the moment that we laid our eyes on the penthouse at Viridium that we had finally found our perfect home. It was modern, bright and spacious, with two balconies allowing us to enjoy outdoor space without the maintenance of a garden. The views from the top are pretty impressive too. Our penthouse has three bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower ensuite which suits us fine and means we have plenty of space for family and friends to visit. We’d seen quite a few different apartments but nowhere had been quite right – we’d even considered a retirement development but we decided against it. We feel very lucky to have found Viridium and don’t have any plans to move again.”
Located on Frimley Road, award-winning Viridium is an exclusive gated development. Set over three buildings with both countryside and town views, Viridium when complete will comprise an outstanding collection of one, two and three bedroom apartments, garden apartments and penthouses within landscaped grounds. The development also provides private off-road over and underground parking for its residents.
Derek and Diana used Hodson Developments’ Assisted Move scheme, which allowed them to reserve their dream property with a deposit of £1000, giving them four weeks to sell their family home. Not wanting to risk losing the property for which they had spent the last three years searching and with a lot of interest in the penthouse, they were delighted to be able to secure their ideal home.
Derek says: “We had been looking for a property just like the penthouse for some time and so we knew we had to have it. We were able to pay the holding deposit with the Assisted Move scheme and quickly got our family home onto the market. The move allowed us to free up some cash too but to be honest for us, it was more about a change of lifestyle – and after four months living in our new home, we couldn’t be happier.”
Christie Alaimo, Sales Director for Hodson Developments says: “It was wonderful to help Mr and Mrs Lindon buy their dream home, especially after such a long time looking. As they have discovered, a brand new apartment is the ideal option for downsizers looking to reduce the maintenance of a larger property and enjoy a more manageable lifestyle. The penthouse provides them with all the benefits of a newly built apartment but they also get the added bonus of the far reaching views which they can enjoy from their balconies.”
Enjoying their new home, the couple have also found that their apartment is also much cheaper to run than their previous larger property.
“Other than to check they work, we haven’t needed the radiators on once – not even when we moved in back in early February,” adds Derek. “Our water consumption is virtually at zero now we don’t have a garden to water and I believe that our utility bills will be extremely low and council tax is three bands lower. It wasn’t a reason for moving but it has certainty been a welcome benefit.”
First time buyers Sean Briggs and fiancée Veneta Stanton-Wharmby were delighted to discover that Help to Buy could help them get more for their money with Hodson Developments.
By using Help to Buy, it meant that as well as only requiring a 5% deposit upfront, with the 20% equity loan from the government, they could also gain access to lower interest rates available with a 75% loan to value mortgage. As a result the couple were able to extend their budget by nearly £100,000 and buy a stylish new two–bedroom apartment complete with 30ft long glass balcony at Viridium. What’s more is that the couple will now only have to pay just over ten pounds more in monthly mortgage payments than they were paying previously in their rented property.
Aircraft engineer Sean says: “Thanks to Help to Buy suddenly we have been able to buy an amazing property that was previously out of our price range. As soon as we saw this particular apartment Viridium we knew we loved it, but it wasn’t until we did the sums with Help to Buy, that we realised we could actually afford to buy it. We only needed to pay a 5% deposit and as the government is providing us with a 20% equity loan, we were able to secure a mortgage with an interest rate of 2.2% – meaning really affordable monthly repayments. We can’t quite believe that we have managed to buy our first home here.”
Previously having thought they were going to have to buy a property that required a lot of work, given their budget, they are thrilled to move into ready-made home. Their brand new apartment not only requires no work, it also comes with a sophisticated new kitchen with top of the range appliances and specification included in the price, stylish bathrooms, ensuite and even luxury carpet throughout.
Body Shop Store Manager Veneta adds: “The prospect of having to do up a run down property was not what I had wanted at all but with the budget we had it felt like that was our only option. So when we found out we could get everything we wanted at Viridium with Help to Buy – and no need for any DIY – we wasted no time in paying a holding deposit to secure the property. The fact that it comes kitted out with all modern appliances is also a great help – meaning that we don’t have any more to pay out before moving in. I can quite honestly say it’s our dream first home and I can’t imagine anything I would want to change about it.”
Viridium is a contemporary new development located just off London Road in Camberley. A popular choice with those using the Help to Buy scheme, many homebuyers are enjoying the fact that they can purchase a high quality home in a sought after location with the 5% deposit equity loan scheme. Not just a first time buyer scheme, Help to Buy is open to any homebuyer looking to buy a new home under the value of £600,000.
Christie Alaimo, Sales Director for Hodson Developments comments: “Help to Buy is a super equity loan scheme that is helping many people move onto or up the property ladder. Combining a low deposit requirement with access to more affordable interest rates, it helps make moving home a reality and has been very popular at Viridium. What’s more is that the equity loan is interest free for five years and can even be paid back when the property is sold. Everyone’s a winner.”
Sean and Veneta purchased their ideal home at Viridium, a very spacious two-bedroom apartment with an impressive balcony stretching the entire length of the property. Providing the ideal living space, the twenty-something couple are looking forward to showing off their new home to their friends and family.
Veneta adds: “It’s just so nice and I can’t wait to for everyone to come and visit and we even have a great spare bedroom for anyone to stay. I had been so depressed about the whole housebuying situation but everything changed the moment we found Viridium and now I can’t stop smiling.”
Ideally situated for Sean’s work, Viridium is located just 15 miles from Heathrow for and is also a short walk from the town centre for Veneta. Camberley is also well located for access to London via Ascot by train, the M3 and the extended road network beyond.
